Local Group Membership

If you live in Hampshire - Surrey border area and are interested in watching/enjoying birds even it is only those in your garden why not join your Local RSPB Group?  We would like to give you the opportunity to participate and enjoy leaning more about birds with us.

Indoor meetings are held from September to April at halls in our area.  Our guest speakers give illustrated talks on various aspects of bird life.

Outdoor meetings are held throughout the year, visiting sites which are good for bird watching. These include RSPB reserves as well as local sites.

Fund raising is also an important activity for us. Our efforts at selling RSPB Sales Goods and a variety of things from home-made produce to bric-a-brac, holding raffles at indoor meetings and running our annual Christmas Fair, enable us to raise substantial sums for RSPB conservation projects here and abroad.

What Group Membership Involves

Our year starts on 1st April and ends the following March at the AGM.  A small annual subscription is levied for single membership and for family membership (see Membership Form) .  This is in addition to your national RSPB subscription and covers our own costs - halls, speakers, printing etc.  Most of our meetings are free to members, who also get a membership programme card and our twice-yearly Group Newsletter. For those with families, children are always welcome at our events.  If a new member joins in December or January the subscription is 50% of the annual fee.  Anyone joining in February is paid up until the following year, i.e. 14 months membership for the cost of the annual subscription.

Perhaps if we were called The Royal Society For Making Sure Wild Birds And The Wild Places They Live At Home And Abroad & Can Survive In Peace For Their Own And Our Pleasure, people would understand what we do. But that's hardly snappy.

The RSPB and its Local Groups have been conserving biodiversity for over 100 years.

The RSPB takes a long-term view of the environment, but we also live in the realworld. We know that people have many concerns other than wild birds, poverty, health and housing will be at the top of most people's lists; but more and more people are concerned with the health of the natural world too. The RSPB firmly believes that for human society to develop, environmental issues must be tackled alongside human issues.

We are fully committed to fighting environmental threats. We believe that with the support of our members, we really can make a difference
