Rivers Campaign

When was the last time you played pooh sticks? Or went on a boat trip? Do you have a favourite riverside walk? Or do you find your peace with a split cane rod in your hand, safely out of mobile phone reception?

From RSPB Site:  More people than ever saving nature
New RSPB member of our Group, Stuart Lee-Smith, who joined, says: “I’m disabled and can’t get out at all but after an RSPB talk at a local event an RSPB volunteer took me to my closest RSPB nature reserve, Pulborough Brooks.
“I had a great day and met some lovely staff and RSPB members on the way round and the rest is history.
“I joined the RSPB that same day because and even though I’m an OAP I can make flexible donations so it’s very affordable.”

Fund raising is also an important activity for us. Our efforts at selling RSPB Sales Goods anda variety of things from home-made produce to bric-a-brac, holding raffles at indoor meetings and running our annual Christmas Fair, enable us to raise substantial sums for RSPB conservation projects here and abroad.

If “watchers” notice any birds with plumage abnormalities then the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) would like to hear from them.

494 505 birds have been illegally killed by trappers in Cyprus so far this Autumn but you can do something about this!

SIGN THE LETTER to the Cyprus Ministers of Justice and Interior to help BirdLife Cyprus’ anti-trapping campaign. In just 30 days we have managed to gather more than 8000 signatures, from more than 55 countries, but more signatures are needed if we want to put some real pressure on decision makers!

The number of birds killed, represents the BirdLife Cyprus estimate for how many birds have been slaughtered by trappers using mist nets and limesticks between September 1st and October 2nd. This death toll, which will be updated every Monday on BirdLife Cyprus’ website during the autumn trapping season, is based on our ongoing systematic monitoring of trapping activity in the field. Though only an estimate, it shows the extent of the problem out there in the “killing fields” of the Famagusta and Larnaca Districts.
